Teaching in Japan
Who do you teach?
Most positions are at state-run junior high schools, with students aged 12 to 15 years.
While some placements may vary from school to school, on the whole you will work alongside a Japanese Teacher of English (JTE) in a 'Team Teaching' situation. You will also be responsible for developing teaching materials and activities for each class.

- 29.5 hours per week
- weekdays only, between
- 8:00am to 5:00pm
- mostly forty-five to fifty minute classes
- no evening, public holiday or weekend shifts, save for the occasional special school event such as a Sports Day or Cultural Day
You will also receive comprehensive training, covering working in Japanese Schools, techniques and activities, using of textbooks, teaching elementary classes, getting teaching materials, what to do on you first Day with your first class, as well as Japanese lessons for you.
Pay
Your salary of 250,000 yen p/m, will have tax and national insurance automatically deducted at approximately 7%.
You will be able to walk or cycle the short distance to the school. If you do need other transport then you will be able to get this reimbursed.
