I am a Highland girl at heart, so going to Greece to teach English was an easy move. They have even more mountains than my native Scotland.
I taught English in Edinburgh and Cambridge for a while and really enjoyed it, but was hankering for a life abroad. Greece had the mountains and the lifestyle, so what can you do?
I taught at a really small school, only had a couple of classrooms and I was pretty much in charge of what I taught, which was fine by me. I didn't have any Greek before I went, but soon found I was speaking it in the local supermarkets and cafes. The kids I was teaching were great, full of energy and enthusiasm and eager to learn.
I finally moved to France and taught English to adults. It was an interesting change and the conservations in the lessons also changed. I had never taught business English, and my lack of business experience wasn't a problem at all. Most wanted to learn specific English for their jobs.
I now work full-time for TEFL Earth and I spend a lot of my time talking to people on the phone about teaching English abroad and TEFL. I really love being able to inspire people and offer them the opportunities I had, guess that sounds a little corny, but there you go!
